Workpackage 4
Short description
Summary: The initial objective of this workpackage is to integrate the individual results achieved in the previous workpackage to provide proof-of-concepts prototypes on a pilot level and to demonstrate feasibility and assess human factors in realistic scenarios. The scenarios will also be shown in exhibitions and/or conferences as concrete examples of achievements that show both the potentialities in using IST-robotic systems in various CWE and meeting the demands of the industry partners in terms of needs and requirements of future available technologies.
CNRS/AIST will experiment various concepts developed in WP2 and WP3 using the humanoid HRP2 platform and other available resources (Task 4.1-3). UC3M will participate in the development of the teleworking prototype in shared environments by different operator and IST-robotic systems. The specific interfacing technologies and safe mutual exclusion will be implemented in construction site prototype. Different parameters will be analysed in real environment and with real humanoid platforms: safety, productivity, easy to use, etc. (Tasks 4.1 and 4.3). TUM As one of the major goals of ROBOT@CWE is promoting acceptance of IST-robotics in the general public, demonstration activities play an important role to fulfil the project objectives. Conceptual and technological outcomes of the project will be presented in such a way that they highlight the usefulness of IST-robots also to people without technical background. PLUS will evaluate the prototypes from usability, user experience and social impact viewpoints (Task 4.4). EPFL will work principally in 4.3 to validate the multi-modal interface and adaptive algorithms developed in WP3 in a prototype and a realistic scenario, where the humanoid will be requested to handle various objects in collaboration with the human. Further, in collaboration with the other partners (especially CNRS and PLUS), EPFL will validate the real-time feasibility of the system (Task 4.2) and the user-friendliness of the interface (Task 4.4). Dragados will lead the development of the construction site scenario and demonstrations for collaborative working environment. The selected task will focus in using humanoids for the site preparation of risky and tedious tasks, and humanoid handling objects with humans (Task 4.3). HP-EIC will participate especially to task 4.1 in order to provide support and fine-tune the architecture created in WP3. SAS will participate to the implementation of prototypes and perform human factor, usability and psychological evaluations of the applications scenarios, especially for the space (remote and harsh environment) oriented application scenarios.
